ícone Our problem is always the biggest

He was young, handsome and heir of vast fortune. Requested by the young girls, wherever he went. Some, because admired the youth, the gallantry, the beauty.

Others, because they glimpsed the economic security, which could be achieved through advantageous matrimonial consortium.

The days were happy until the moment in which an accident withdrew his visual capacity.

The revolt was installed. How to live without the precious sense of vision?

The doctors consulted were not unanimous in their prognosis. Some have said that the issue was irreversible. Others beckoned him with the possibility of seeing again.

As if the time dragged out, with no alteration of the clinical picture and hoping that the son would adapt himself to the new reality, the father hired a professional for guidance.

The lady, mature in experience, patiently was winning the revolt of the young man and showed him how he could move around the house, going up and down the stairs, moving from one room to another.

She invited him to sharpen the hearing and showed the difference between the noise of coffee being poured in an empty cup and when it was almost full.

Taught him how to recognize, by tact, furniture and objects, chiseled out to him the capacity for perception.

Facing failures, small drops or the inability of doing something that he wanted, the young man got very distressed, almost despair.

He thought he was useless. In those hours, the loving teacher spoke to him with calm, encouraging him to overcome everything.

Annoyed, he responded so coarse and said that everything was very easy for her, because she could see.

Without changing, she continued in her teaching.

Then, one day, something unusual happened. He saw a ray of sunshine injuring the eyes.

Infinitely happy, he realized that he had turned to see. Between cries of  joy, he called the father, the brother, celebrating with effusive hugs the venture.

Finally, he remembered the guiding teacher and went to give her the news.

Then, and only then, he discovered: the one to whom so many times he had offended, with harsh words, saying that everything was easy for her because she could see, was a totally blind lady.

Sorry, he embraced her and implored her forgiveness...

How many times have we done as this young man? How many times, in public offices, have we said to the one who attended us that he or she could not appreciate our problem because they do not have it?

How many times, in hospital environments, to attendants and nurses, have we expressed our outrage, saying that they do not know what it is like to be sick or in pain?

How many times have we wounded a heart in open sore, saying that he is insensitive and cannot understand us because has never suffered in life?

We do not know how much pain hides a smile. The professional of any area suffer as much or more than ourselves.

And if they do not scream out, nor show their problem, it is because they have learned how to overcome, to serve better.

Learned to repress the tears to wipe away the tears of others. Exercised in support hardships in order to extend the balm in beyond pain.

Let us think about it. The appearances do not always demonstrate the reality and where we believe that there is only happiness, are hidden, sometimes, painful wounds.
